Eva Blaise and Zita Blaise!

Some interesting facts about the Swedish translations of Modesty Blaise:

In the first book (1965), Modesty was renamed Eva Blaise because the publisher didn't think Swedish readers would understand the name Modesty. By the second book, Sabre Tooth (1966) she was named back to Modesty.

She was also renamed in the first comic strips in Sweden, in 1965. She was named Zita Blaise, for some reason, when first published in the magazine Bildjournalen. Bildjournalen published the two first episodes, La Machine and The Long lever, in 1965 and 1966.

In 1967 Modesty got her own magazine, called Agent Modesty Blaise. There were 14 magazines published in 1967-1968, covering the first 14 episodes. In 1971 the magazine Agent X9 started and they are still publishing the Modesty strips among others. All the strips are also published in 13 hardcover books. They are now being reprinted, this time in chronological order.

Scans of the comics are coming soon!
